candygirl AUCs One Book

To the AUC Community,

I am pleased to announce the launch of AUC's One Book, One Conversation, One Community Common Reading Program. Our first book will be Candygirl by Ambassador Mohamed Tawik.

Candygirl was chosen by a committee of students, faculty and administrators because; it will engage the University community in discussion and inquiry. The novel is an exciting mix of action thriller and science fiction, set in a world of espionage and avatars. You may learn more about the book and read an interview with the author by accessing the article on the AUC Press website.

Our One Book, One Conversation, One Community initiative is designed to engage our Freshman Program students in the intellectual work of the University and to foster a culture of reading. All incoming freshman for the 2014-15 academic year will receive a copy of the book over the summer, so they can start reading well before the start of the semester. Then, beginning with the First Year Experience, students will participate in a program of activities, presentations and special events related to the book throughout the year. Small-group discussions, film series and lectures are just some of the activities being planned. Be sure to check News@AUC for announcements.

I encourage the entire AUC community to contribute to building a culture of reading and inquiry by participating in this common experience along with our new students. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a discounted rate at the AUC Bookstore on campus.

We hope you will join us in launching this exciting new program. We also look forward to connecting the entire AUC community through participation in dialogue and discussion throughout the year around the fascinating and thought-provoking Candygirl.

Happy Reading!
